Grandpa Gardener is a fictional character based on the experiences of a real grandpa and gardener. He was inspired by gardening with his granddaughter and her Kindergarten class to create garden-based experiences filled with charming characters who come to life.  He observed that the simple act of planting a seed, tending it and watching it grow is a miraculous experience for children on multiple levels.   As a garden volunteer, he has had the wonderful opportunity to work with hundreds of children in public and private schools and organizations. He found that the children who gardened greatly improved their reading, writing, and comprehension skills in a fun, safe, and entertaining way.  As a result, he and his wife established Grandpa Gardener in 2006 as a company with a cause - Growing Gardens. Growing Children.  Our primary vision is to "Open Minds Through Gardening" by providing children everywhere with Garden-Based Learning books, workshop experiences, and products.    It was over a decade since he had last visited Kindergarten classrooms and... nothing has changed! The Kinders now are the same as they were over a decade ago. Gardening is an inspiration to their education, combining both theory and practice.
